| JRC names new leader
SWAMPSCOTT - The Jewish Rehabilitation Center's newest chief executive officer got to work even before the organization had a chance to announce his hiring. Stephen Neff started working Monday, when he began overseeing the JRC and Woodbridge Assisted Living in Peabody. When It Comes To Pensions, Size Counts
Thousands of federal employees work in Hawaii. Most of them love it. But when it comes time to retire, many feds leave it. They leave for places where everything from canned pineapple to gasoline and Big Macs are a lot less expensive. Much the same thing happens to people who live and work and love life in Alaska. When they retire, many of them are forced to seek out less expensive places in the lower 48. U.S. civil servants in Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico get special cost of living differentials that put their gross and take home salary well above their peers in other places. That differential is a big help while they are working, but it isn't considered part of salary when the high-3 is computed for retirement purposes. Relief for that may be on the way. President Bush's budget would extend locality pay to those areas for the first time.
OCPAC has lost four managers
Four high-ranking managers at the Orange County Performing Arts Center have left or retired since the opening of the center's new concert hall in September, and turnover has been especially high on the fundraising staff at a pivotal time for the expansion's success under a new president, Terrence Dwyer. Faced with feeding an increased appetite for donations, Dwyer is coming under criticism from Michael L. Halpern, who was second in command for fundraising from 1999 until Sept. 30. Halpern described Dwyer as an uncommunicative leader who "came in and broke something that wasn't broke." .
Autopsy may pinpoint cause in man’s death
Willow Ridge representatives declined to make any comment regarding Howie's disappearance or death when contacted by The Stanly News & Press.The police investigation into the incident is ongoing. Whether or not any charges will be filed has not been determined, but such a course of action is unlikely based on preliminary findings.The assisted living center, which opened in 1998, offers care for adults who prefer not to live alone or require daily personal assistance.The 15,000 square-foot facility has more than 20 private rooms for residents, as well as living, dining, and recreational areas.Neither Willow Ridge representatives nor law enforcement officers indicated where Howie was last seen prior to his disappearance.Staff members provide 24- hour service and Certified Nurse Assistants are available to assist residents as needed with daily activities and needs.Jay Almond can be contacted by email at snaponline21@yahoo.com.
