Correction Around the Corner?

If that is true, I suspect any declines will draw in the money on the side that has not participated, so far, in the upside. This will temper the depth of any correction. We shall see.

Thursday's guest host Bob Parker sees the possibility of weakness for Equities. Short term, he believes they're technically stretched but should outperform over 2007. Near term, there will be some opportunities in the government debt market, with the 10-year Treasury yield moving to 4.65%.

Useful discussion about China and India with the manager of a new fund,

Jonathan Schiessl. The Chindia fund (yes, it is really called that) will invest in those two economies, but has a slight bias towards China at this time. Jonathan thinks India looks a little rich right now -- but both offer a good long term growth story.

High-tech 'smart' community planned

Blueroof Technologies, a McKeesport nonprofit, presented city officials this week with a plan to develop an "independence zone" that they said would see McKeesport grow as a leading independent living community for senior citizens in the state.

The organization built a model home in McKeesport last year and displayed how a two-story, wood-frame house could be converted into a hi-tech home designed to enhance independent living for the disabled and elderly. Now it is proposing to build at least 20 such homes in McKeesport in the next few years.

The project will be the foundation of a research and development campus known as the Blueroof Smart Cottage Research and Development Center, Blueroof Executive Director John Bertoty said.

"We already have a model house in the zone," Mr.

Gun-charges psychiatrist and wife sought senior policeman's help

THE psychiatrist who entered Victoria's busiest court last week with a loaded handgun recently sought help from police assistant commissioner Simon Overland for what his wife called "our nightmare" — which allegedly included an underworld contract on his life.

A letter, signed by Jerry Gelb, was sent on January 5 after his sister, a criminologist with the Department of Justice, provided contact details for Mr Overland, a court was told yesterday.

A police investigator said in evidence that he understood Gelb's sister, Karen Gelb, worked with Mr Overland on the Sentencing Advisory Council and that he believed Jerry Gelb later spoke with Mr Overland.

Defence lawyer Bob Galbally showed the letter to Senior Constable Jordan Bailey during evidence in the Melbourne Magistrates Court.

Age just a number for 105-year-old (2/1)

At 105, Mary Metzger is all smiles, and she's certainly not complaining. Not only is she happy to see her 105th birthday, but according to those close to her, it's her nature to stay positive and upbeat every day of the year.

"I feel just fine," Metzger said when asked how she felt on her 105th birthday Wednesday.

Friends and family gathered at the Kingsley Place assisted living home, where Metzger resides, to celebrate the monumental day. Metzger's friends from her church, First Presbyterian Church, family members, and friends from her residence mingled, ate cake and sang "Happy Birthday." A pile of birthday cards, prepared by students from Prien Lake Elementary, sat on a table next to two framed photos of Metzger from her early years.

Metzger's niece, Mary Spratt (who was named after her aunt) attributes Metzger's longevity partially to good nutrition.
