Israeli Arabs less patriotic

The willingness of Israel's citizens to enlist in a time of need was also surveyed. The findings showed that the percentage of Israeli Arabs wiling to enlist in the army decreased significantly following the second Lebanon war.

In 2006, 42 percent of the Arab population was prepared to fight for Israel, whereas only 26.5 percent was willing to do so in 2007.

However, despite the decrease, the survey's conductors emphasized that there was still a significant minority amongst the Arab public that would enlist.

Bass Pro's roof will get mural

The Portage Board of Zoning Appeals approved the company's request to paint murals on the east and west sides of the store's roof. The murals will include the company's logo.

Officials from Garage Graphics and Visuals, of Springfield, Mo., said many Bass Pro locations have the murals and they attract visitors to the destination retailer.

The store will have its grand opening Feb. 15.

In other news, an assisted-living facility was approved for a site on Willowcreek Road south of Porter hospital's Portage campus. Officials had to obtain a special exception since the area isn't zoned for assisted-living facilities.

The two-story brick facility will house 90 apartments. Construction will start on the building by the end of this year, with plans to open in 2008.

My father moved into an assisted living facility in 2006. He has ...

A: The first step is to add up your father's total expenditure for medical care. Then, subtract reimbursements from the long-term-care policy, other medical insurance, Medicare and any other source.

Whether the net medical expense is deductible depends on your father's adjusted gross income. Medical expenses must total more than 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income before you can take a deduction.

Reimbursements aren't taxable unless they exceed expenses.

Are You Ready for the Big One?

At first glance, the Santa Clarita Valley has changed radically since 1994, with changing demographics and a thriving business community.

In the last 13 years, the city's population has swelled from 128,700 to roughly 175,000.

One thing has not changed.

This valley sits in an earthquake-prone area along the San Andreas Fault and it's only a matter of time until another big one hits.

"It's very likely. It certainly is an active area," said Amalie J. Orme, a professor of earth science at California State University, Northridge.

"You have to be prepared every day ... (living on) the assumption the quake will happen now," she said.

Talk about earthquakes to a longtime SCV resident, and it's likely that one in particular is the first to come to mind.

'Yahan mausam badla hua hai'

Amritsar, February 10: Looking at the cloudy sky with the cold breeze and pouring, former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today remarked in his own style Punjab mein to muasam badla hua hai, as he rose up to address his first election campaign here. In the same breath he made a direct attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for making immature remarks during his recent visit to the city in which PM had expressed concerns regarding return of terrorism to the state. Congress is in this habit. They want to create a delusion about terrorism here, he said.

He added that communal harmony and peace was inherent in Punjab society and the terrorism would never raise the ugly heads again. If PM is so concerned about terrorism, he must look towards Jammu and Kashmir and Assam and make efforts to control the terrorism there, he need not to worry of Punjab, said Vajpayee adding Punjab's respect would be restored when the SAD-BJP was voted to power.
