Alice Peck Day Celebrates 75 Years
Lebanon -- Much as she missed participating in the kickoff event for Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital's 75th anniversary, birthing-center nurse Patsy Sirois wasn't going to miss her appointment with a patient yesterday afternoon. Never mind that the service Sirois delivered wasn't going to bring the hospital any income
right away. For new moms, we offer a free half-hour massage, Sirois said on her way to the lobby, where most of the crowd for the opening ceremonies was going or gone. I had two moms come in for their freebies today. While she was kneading her patient's muscles and filling the need for adult company -- Studies show that when new moms are nurtured, it helps them better nurture their babies, Sirois said -- the hospital found more than enough staff and trustees past and present to recall some of APD's history.

Bids for land development must start anew
FRANKLIN — A Woburn developer will not pursue his $4.7 million bid to develop an old sewer dump on Pond Street, officials confirmed Tuesday during a meeting of the Economic Development Committee. The developer, Paul Maggiore of The Maggiore Cos., had previously expressed continued interest in the land. Reached after the meeting, he clarified that stance by saying he would look again at the 34-acre property, but only with a new, and likely lower, bid. "I’m definitely interested in working on that site," Maggiore said. Maggiore had planned to put in office buildings, a hotel, a restaurant and townhouse condos. However, a consultant he hired recently determined that wetlands on the site might be more extensive than once thought, potentially limiting construction.
