Unless Carter Oil Company beings its monster gas well near Wolf under control in the next few days, the State Bureau of Mines will order that the torch be applied, according to information received here. This report has been current in oilfield circles for two or three days, it seems. Everything known has been tried to suppress the flow of gas from the great well. It has been impossible to get a gauge on it, but it is reported to be one of the largest gassers this field has known. - oOo- "Bishop?s Alley," so called, is now a part of the city of Seminole. This property, it is believed, will become a valuable addition to the city. Council met in called session and passed on the petition of W.A. Bishop to have his property taken into the city. This gives the police authority in what has long been known as Happy Hollow, North End and The Bottoms, - oOo- One man, suspected of robbing the Sayre Cafe at Bowlegs, has been arrested.
Legislation could provide relief on student loan interest rate
Congressional leaders are moving briskly ahead on bills that would dramatically cut interest rates on student loans for some borrowers.
Although the measures have yet to become law, one has been approved in the House and a similar proposal has passed a key Senate committee. Experts say this is a sign that lending reforms are likely to be included in higher-education legislation that is expected this year.

Jury Deliberates In Care Home Death
10:30 AM UPDATE: Channel 11s Kimberly Easton reporting from Alleghany County Courthouse said jury deliberations are now in their second day in the Martha Bell murder trial. An Allegheny County jury reached a verdict in the case of a former nursing home administrator charged in the death of a patient. Martha Bell was found guilty Thursday afternoon on the following counts: guilty of involuntary manslaughter, guilty of neglect, guilty of conspiracy and guilty of reckless endangerment. Bell was charged with involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors said the former Ronald Reagan Atrium One Nursing Home was understaffed. Defense attorneys argue the Robinson Township home was well run and the patient's death was a tragedy, but not a crime.
