Instead of slowing down after serving for more than 34 years in the Allen County Sheriff's Department, Colby, 59, last year took the position as the law enforcement coordinator for the Middle Atlantic-Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network, also known as MAGLOCLEN. His job includes communicating with the network's member agencies and assisting them with their needs. During his years working in the Vice and Narcotics Division, he did undercover work before he earned the title of lieutenant in 1990. His daughter, Catherine Maggart, 35, remembers, "He was quite scary when he would pick us up at school, with his long hair and beat-up van." She said her mother would tie jeans to the back of the lawnmower and drag them on the ground to make them look worn.

BRIDGEWATER: Program will focus on identity theft
A consumer-awareness program on identity theft will be presented at The Avalon Assisting Living at Bridgewater 1:30 p.m. Feb. 23. This program is presented by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance, Office of Public Affairs. Attendees will learn about the problems caused by identity theft and effective prevention measures that can be taken to help safeguard themselves against credit card fraud, securing of bank information, driver's license duplication, and more. Identity theft is a nationwide problem. It occurs when someone uses your personal identifying information, such as your name, Social Security number or credit card number, without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. The Federal Trade Commission estimates that as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen each year.
